  • The original Band Aid project, formed by Bob Geldof in 1984, was a great and noble idea, with proceeds from sales going to help with famine-relief in Ethiopia. While the song is pretty awful and cringeworthy by all standards, at least it was in the name of a good cause. Then they repeated the process in 1989. And again in 2004... And again in 2014... And by now, no matter how many times they update the lyrics or musical themes, the song remains just as tacky, misinformed and cringe-inducing as ever. The lyrics are incredibly thoughtless, spewing out whatever balderdash they can to make sense to whatever cause they’re trying to raise money for (in this case it’s the 2014 West African Ebola outbreak). It’s hard not to doubt the sincerity of everyone involved, with this probably being more of a good publicity opportunity or contractual obligation than a genuine plea for help. Either way, there’s a star-studded roster across the four songs here, from the likes of Phil Collins, George Michael, Bono, Cliff Richards, Robbie Williams, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, Sting and Roger Taylor, as well as bands such as Duran Duran, Busted and Feeder, among countless others. This CD single serves as nothing more than a collectible to own if you’re a die-hard fan of any of the contributors. Otherwise, this is complete and utter garbage.
